QReview!
Faked to Death
Author: Dean James
Section: Mystery
Genre: Mystery, humor, gay
Rating: 7.0
Plot Rundown: Invited to a writers'
workshop by the esteemed (albeit
earsplitting) Lady Hermione Kinsale, Simon
Kirby-Jones finds himself sharing the workshop
with one Dorinda Darlington. Simon knows how
reclusive Miss Darlington is renowned to be,
because "Dorinda Darlington" is HIS nom de
plume. Before Simon can discover who this
imposter truly is,
however, she is murdered. Simon would have
liked to have killed the fraud, but he
didn't. And if he didn't, then who did?
Review: Although certainly not the
best mystery around, James keeps Faked to
Death entertaining by virtue of the
hysteria he brings together in the Kinsale
House. Although the expansive Lady Hermione,
the iridescent Norah Tattersall, and the
misogynistic Dexter Harbaugh are all
intriguing characters, the pride of place
must go to Patty-Anne Putney, a vivacious and
deranged mystery writer who spends most of
her time petting and talking to Mr.
Murbles--a cranky, definitively unresponsive
stuffed rabbit. Although there is little here
to warrant rereading, it is certainly worth
one read as an amusing relaxant from the
stress of school.
