 QReview!

Posted to Death
Author: Dean James
Section: Mystery
Genre: Gay, trans
Rating: 8.0

Plot Rundown Simon Kirby-Jones is curious, gay, and dead. He's a vampire, but thanks to a new medical discovery, he needs neither hide himself for the sun nor suck blood from people's necks. His attempt to settle down in the small town of Snupperton Mumsley is thrown into chaos, however, when the abrasive postmistress--Abigail Winterton--is found murdered. Whodunit???

Review: James' strength lies in his characters, and fortunately, this is a book that emphasizes that strength. The creative cast of saucy suspects (ACK! I've caught Dean James' alliteration syndrome!) includes the haughty and headstrong Lady Prunella Blitherington; the spiced ice queen Samantha Stevens; the blustering Colonel Clitheroe; and the insidiously handsome bookseller Trevor Chase, each one of which is more interesting and amusing than the last. This is by no means a mold-breaking work of genius; it is, however, a fun, enjoyable mystery story that can keep you hooked right up to the end.
