QReview!
The Second Summoning
Author: Tanya Huff
Section: Fiction
Genre: Fantasy, Straight, Lesbian
Rating: 10
Plot Rundown: Claire and Diana may be
sisters, but they are hardly on the same side.
Claire’s rollercoaster of a love-life has somehow
managed to create an angel, and the creation of this
angel has somehow managed to create a demon. While
Claire scrambles to send the angel back to Heaven
and the demon back to Hell, Diana, torn by moral
conflicts, stands repeatedly in her way. But with
the demon’s plans to unleash Hell itself upon the
world spinning closer to fruition, how long can
Diana afford to stand by what she alone seems to
think is right?
Review: Tanya Huff does not fall into the
Swamp of Terrible Sequels that captures so many
authors, instead delivering here a sequel with a
completely different plot but the same machine-gun
humor. Particularly interesting is her rendition of
Samuel the angel and Byleth the demon—both
characters are intriguing, refreshing changes from
the angel & demon clichés which flood modern novels
today.
