QReview!
Long Hot Summoning
Author: Jesse Green
Section: Biography
Genre: Nonfiction, Gay, Parenting
Rating: 9.5
Plot Rundown: When Jesse Green fell in love
with Andy M, he knew that his new relationship came
with Erez, Andy’s adopted son. What he didn’t know
was the effect that becoming a mother/ father to a
two-year old boy would have—how it would change not
only the way he viewed life, but the way other
couples, both straight and gay, viewed him.
Review: Green’s lighthearted, yet painfully
truthful, writing details the rigors of parenthood
with surprising, succinct clarity. One would expect
the life of gay parents to be radically different
from that of straight—yet Green’s memoir assures us
it is not. Christmas and Hanukkah still have to be
reconciled, diaper duties still have to be shared,
and laundry still ends up looking more like
minestrone than clothing. This is not a book about
homosexuality; it is a book about parents, and for
anybody who is a parent, will be a parent, or might
someday want to be a parent, this is a book worth
reading.
