QReview!
The Jewels of Aptor
Author: Samuel R. Delany
Section: Fiction
Genre: Science fiction
Rating: 5
Plot Rundown: When the White Goddess Argo
fought the Dark God Hama in the land of Aptor, she
lost both her daughter and one of three mystical
jewels which govern her power. To reclaim both, she
sends a quartet of mismatched companions into Aptor,
armed with the second jewel. However, once in Aptor,
the lines of good and evil begin to blur, and the
question arises—is recovering the jewel for Argo,
and granting her unlimited power over the world,
truly the right thing to do?
Review: The tale is set in a fascinating
world of the future where society has at once
progressed and regressed in a multitude of bizarre
ways. Unfortunately, the clunky language and
uninteresting story hobble this world severely. This
book had the potential to be marvelous, but is, at
best, average.
